Maria's new book, Wicked Lustful Tales (Vol. 1& 2) is a collection of 10 provacative and titillating short stories. Hop over to her site and visit when you can.
What is the working title of your book?
It's titled Song of the Ancients.
Where did the idea come from for the book?
They say write what you know. The idea for Song of the Ancients comes from my personal evolution. The spritual paths in the Southwest are so diverse. I have always been interested in Nature-based religions, so widening that study to encompass the Native spirituality of the area seemed a natural progression. Then I blended Wicca and witchcraft into my studies, and I am currently a 3rd degree High Priestess. My main character, Samantha, introduces the concept of witchcraft, seen through the eyes of an ordinary, non-magical woman.
What genre does your book fall under?
Paranormal suspense, with strong romantic elements.
What actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
For Samantha, Karen Gillan, the Scottish redhead who plays in Dr. Who. Molly Quinn, Castle's daughter in that show, would be good also. They're both smart. but innocent.
If Alan Rickman were younger, he'd be Nicholas. Rickman has always had that cut glass British accent and condescending sneer my character needs. But Nicholas is mid-forties, so maybe Rufus Frederick Sewell, or even Christian Bale, extra lean and with long hair. And the bad guy Nuin? Travis Fimmel, star in the History Channel's Vikings series would be the perfect blend of beauty and evil. With his hair in a poneytail. Swoon. Don't lie, you know you're attracted to the bad boys.
What's a one-sentence synopsis of your book?
A young divorcee moves to Sedona to start anew, but instead becomes the prey in an ancient power struggle to control the magic hidden in those red rocks.
How long did it take to write the first draft of the manuscript?
The first draft took less than a year. Getting to the final draft took forever!
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
We'll see. I'm querying agents now, for a short time. If it's not picked up by summer, I will put it up as an ebook. The market is hot right now.
What other books would you compare this story to in your genre?
Maybe Juliet Blackwell's Witchcraft Mystery series, although this one leans a bit more toward gothic horror than that series.
